  • How to Book Halong Bay Cruises

Halong Bay cruises are a perfect way to explore one of the most beautiful areas in the world. It is plenty enjoyable to behold the natural beauty of Halong Bay (sometimes spelled “Ha Long Bay”) from the mainland of Vietnam, where the bay is located, but nothing will acquaint you with the compact body of water and its thousands of small islets, which together constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site, like a Halong Bay cruise. This much we have covered in our overview of Halong Bay cruises. What we did not cover in this previous article is how to book a Halong Bay cruise, and hence the article before you. While there is nothing particularly complicated about booking a Halong Bay cruise, it’s a little different than booking a standard cruise vacation for reasons that will soon become clear. • Halong Bay Cruises

Halong Bay (also spelled “Ha Long Bay”) is a popular travel destination in Vietnam. Located along the northeastern coast of the country, Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, of which there are less than 1,000 in the world. Given that Halong Bay is such a noteworthy destination and that it is, well, a bay, it is not particularly surprising that there are a number of Halong Bay cruises (or Ha Long Bay cruises, if you must). Unless the breadth of your cruise industry knowledge is enormous (or you are actively planning a trip to Vietnam), you probably have not given much thought to a Halong Bay cruise, so below we’ve provided some basic information about these cruises. What are Halong Bay cruises all about? Read more […]
  • How to Book a Scandinavian Cruise

As of late, we’ve been writing about Scandinavian cruises. First, we wrote about exactly what a Scandinavian cruise is, and then we provided some more specific details about the various Scandinavian cruises you can take. In doing so, we may have inspired some readers to consider a Scandinavian cruise, and if we did inspire a few people, we felt it would cruel not to explain how to go about booking a Scandinavian cruise. And that is, of course, the purpose of this article. We can tell you everything in the world about them, but if we don’t explain how you can actually book a Scandinavian cruise, something is clearly missing. Read more […]
  • Scandinavian Cruise: A Closer Look

In a recent article about Scandinavian cruises, we explained what a “Scandinavian” cruise is. This was surprisingly difficult, primarily because the word “Scandinavia” is flexible. It can be restrictive, referring only to the two countries on the Scandinavian Peninsula (Sweden and Norway); it can be inclusive, including all of the Nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland); or it can be somewhere in between, referring only to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, three countries that are closely related for ethnic and linguistic reasons. Obviously, though, we don’t get to decide what “Scandinavia” means, so neither do we get to define what a Scandinavian cruise is. Clearly, though, it should at least involve one of the countries listed above, and if it does, it may be referred to as a “Scandinavian cruise.” With that rough criterion in mind, what specific types of Scandinavian cruises are available? • Scandinavian Cruises

Cruises to Scandinavia are not as well known as cruises to, say, the Caribbean. This is especially true for American vacationers, although it is perhaps less true of Europeans, but even the latter often look to southern Europe – countries like Spain, Italy, and Greece – for cruise escapes. This is probably because, fairly or unfairly, the idea of a cruise vacation is deeply intermixed with warm climates – with beaches, tropical drinks, sunbathing, and similar such things. However, such a conception of cruise vacations is unduly limiting. There are many places suitable for cruise vacations that aren’t particularly warm, like Scandinavia (and of course Scandinavia isn’t cold all the time anyway). So, even though Scandinavia isn’t exactly an iconic cruise destination, there are many Scandinavian cruises worth taking. Below we walk you through what exactly a Scandinavian cruise is; in doing so, we hope to introduce you to the basics of Scandinavian cruises. Read more […]
  • Tauck River Cruises: What Tauck River Cruises are Available?

As we noted in a previous article about Tauck River Cruises, Tauck is a company that not only operates river cruises, but also an assortment of other adventure vacations, not all of which involve bodies of water, such as safaris. (Less importantly, Tauck is very often spelled “Tack” – this is noteworthy only because this spelling error appears to be more problematic with Tauck than with other cruise companies, perhaps because “tack” is an actual word. “Tack cruises” and “tack river cruises” could trick a search engine into thinking you are in fact searching for a nonexistent tack cruise. A similar problem would not occur with a misspelling like “Carnivel cruise” or “Carribean cruise,” for instance.) In this article, as in the last, we are only concerned with Tauck river cruises. However, rather than focus on them in general, as we did previously, we wanted to focus on a few specific cruises – a representative sample, if you will – to give you a better sense of what a Tauck river cruise is all about.
