  • The Titanic Passengers

How many passengers were on the Titanic? Strangely, given the extraordinary level and scope of attention that has been given to the Titanic wreck, it is not known exactly how many people were on board the Titanic ship. But before getting into the specifics, it should be noted that people often wonder about the number of “Titanic passengers,” or they ask questions about how many “passengers” died on the Titanic, but for the most part these people are not only referring to the Titanic passengers, but also the crew members of the Titanic as well. This is helpful to keep in mind because technically there is a distinction between the passengers on the Titanic and its crew members, even if in common parlance “Titanic passengers” covers both. Usage notes aside, we have a fairly good idea of how many people were on board the ship (including both the Titanic crew members and passengers), and by extension we also have a more or less accurate view of the number of people who survived the wreck and the number of people who did not. • The History of the Titanic

The story of the Titanic is a story of ambition, hubris, and tragedy. The Titanic story could fill many volumes, and indeed it has. Most people have some familiarity with the history of the Titanic, or at least they know of the history of the Titanic wreck. Less is known about how the Titanic ship actually came to be. This side of the Titanic story is quite interesting, however, even if it isn’t as captivating as the shipwreck itself. (Few stories are.) So, in this article we tell the history of the Titanic before it took its maiden voyage; that is, we tell the part of the Titanic story that is so often overlooked, and we do this simply because the full story of the Titanic demands to be told. Why was the Titanic built, and how did its creation come about? Read more […]
  • Singles Cruises: To Where Can You Take a Singles Cruise?

Singles cruises are cruises for singles – that much is clear. What is perhaps less known about singles cruises is that they are not strictly for those looking for romantic encounters with other singles, as we explained in a recent article about single cruises. Singles cruises therefore have broader appeal than you might expect, and so we thought it would be helpful to write an article that answers this question: to where can you take a singles cruise? • The Titanic, 100 Years After the Wreck

The Titanic sank exactly 100 years ago today. The Titanic sinking is of course synonymous with cruise ship disasters; indeed, the Titanic wreck is synonymous with disasters in general. It is one of the great tragedies of history, with the allegedly unsinkable Titanic sinking in less than three hours, claiming the lives of over 1,500 passengers and crew members, nearly three-quarters of the people on board. That the Titanic sank must never be forgotten, nor must we cease to learn from the many lessons this wreck has taught us. The Titanic wreck is enraging because it was unnecessary and unfair because of the disproportionate of number of Second-Class male passengers who perished, but most of all it is deeply heartbreaking. And so a century after the Titanic sank, it is only fitting that we recount what happened on the night that so dramatically altered the course of maritime history. Read more […]
  • Cruises from New York

Cruises from New York? Is that possible? Indeed it is, as there are numerous cruises from New York every year, which are offered by at least six different cruise lines: Carnival, Norwegian, Disney, Holland America, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean. In March alone, there were 13 cruises from New York, and there are even more leaving in the month of April. Cruises from New York travel to several different destinations, from the Caribbean to Canada, from the Bahamas to Europe. Since not many people associate New York with cruise ships (or really anything about the cruise industry), we figured it was high time for an article explaining the important details about cruises that depart from New York. (We’ll start with this one: by “cruises from New York,” we mean “cruises from New York City.” One port is in Manhattan, and there is another port for particularly large ships in Brooklyn. There is also a port in New Jersey called the Cape Liberty Cruise Port.) Read more […]
  • Cruise Ship Jobs: Who Should Work on a Cruise Ship?

Lots of people want cruise ship jobs, but not everyone is cut out for a job on a cruise ship. It of course can be, but it depends on your disposition, inclinations, needs, and basic direction in life. Are you right for a cruise ship job? Read more […]
