If you are considering a Disney cruise in the Bahamas, there is a very special feature that you should know about. The three, four, five and seven-night cruises on the Disney Wonder, Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream and the Disney Magic all make a special stop at Castaway Cay which is Disney’s private island! This is a shore excursion that adults and kids of all ages are sure to remember for a lifetime, not only for the incredible beauty but also because of all of the great activities.
The Beach Scene
The first thing that every guest will notice is that the beaches are pristine soft sand and they are lined with umbrellas, lounge chairs and beach chairs. There are also some hammocks scattered around the beach for guests to enjoy. The next important piece of information is that Castaway Cay offers three separate beaches to accommodate visitors of all ages. The family beach welcomes guests of all ages while Serenity Beach is reserved for the 18 and over crowd. And there is also a special beach for teens to enjoy.
Serenity Beach offers adults a quiet sanctuary for rest and relaxation away from the kids. Services on the beach include open-air massages, adult beverage service and a quiet buffet style lunch. In addition, there are many bars throughout the property where adults can purchase beverages and some snack items. And all of this is provided in a more relaxed and adult style environment.
Teen Beach is focused on keeping your active teenagers entertained as well as supervised, allowing parents the opportunity to check out Serenity Beach or spend some quality time with the younger children at the Castaway Family Beach. Teens need to be signed up for the excursion to this kid-friendly beach prior to docking at Castaway Cay and that can be done very easily with a visit to the Shore Excursion Desk on your ship. While parents are soaking in the sun and possibly a few adult beverages, teens can enjoy kayaking, cycling, snorkeling and a supervised tour of the island.
Castaway Family Beach
Castaway Family Beach is the perfect place for the entire family to gather for some fun in the sun and sand. A short swim from the beach is Pelican Plunge which is a 2,400 square foot floating mecca of fun with two water slides, one giant bucket that dumps hundreds of gallons of water on warm guests and a series of four water cannons to blast targets that are floating in the water. Guests can also enjoy the Spring-a-Leak water playground and splash pad featuring water jets that can be activated by guests. And finally, Snorkeling Lagoon offers your future marine biologists the opportunity to see tropical fish as well as some special buried treasures along the way.
Spend A Day in a Cabana
If you want to make it a full day at the beach, then you should also consider reserving one of the 20 private cabanas located at the edge of Castaway Family Beach. These 325 square foot cabanas offer cushioned chairs, lounge chairs, a dining table, a refrigerator, a lockable storage unit and even a fresh water shower as well as a great place to relax in the shade. Cabanas can be reserved online before your cruise or you can visit the Port Adventures desk on your boat to secure a reservation, but booking early is recommended as these are a very popular way to spend the day enjoying all that Castaway Cay has to offer.
If you know you want to take the family to the Bahamas but you are still not sure which cruise line is going to be the best fit, be sure to consider the added adventure of the Disney Cruise Lines Castaway Cay adventure. The island is open only to Disney ships and use of the island is included in the cost of your cruise, making it a great bonus surprise for the entire family.
