Great Cruises for Guys

cruises for guys

There are hundreds of different cruise vacations, so just about everyone, from young children to the elderly, can find some sort of trip that fits their requirements. It is therefore not surprising that there are a number of great cruises for guys in particular. Many cruises for guys, so-called, could of course be enjoyed by women as well, but overall they are themed in such a way as to appeal to men, and some necessarily target men and men alone (e.g., a bachelor party cruise). Below we detail some of the great cruises for guys out there, detailing what they are and pointing you in the direction of our previous treatments of specific types of cruises.

As we said above, many cruises that might appeal to guys will appeal equally to women. So, while it is true that something like a singles cruise might be a great cruise for a (single) guy, there is nothing about a singles cruise in and of itself that is linked to the male gender. Thus, we’ll leave out cruises that are comparable to singles cruises, which is to say we’ll leave out cruises that have no inherent connection to one gender over the other, even though, once more, they might be great cruises for guys as a matter of fact.

The first grouping of cruises that appeal to men are what one might call “party cruises.” Consider something like the Bud Light cruise, an annual cruise sponsored by the most popular beer in America. This year, the Bud Light cruise took place on the brand-new Norwegian Getaway, which was docked in New York City for the Super Bowl. (This made this year’s Bud Light cruise more like a Bud Light hotel, but that’s neither here nor there.) On this cruise, drinking beer (much of it free) was the principal activity, and as the weekend unfolded everyone looked forward to the Super Bowl that would be happening only miles away. It is not hard to see why a cruise centered on beer and football is a great cruise for a guy. There are also a number of “booze cruises,” like the booze cruises of NYC, that are great “guy cruises” if commandeered for something like a bachelor’s party. Perhaps any cruise that is centered on alcohol is a good cruise for a guy, and thus an “all you can drink” cruise is about as great of a guy cruise as there is, but, once more, we don’t want to imply that men have a monopoly on the enjoyment of strong drink, so that’s why we say a booze cruise that also serves as the platform for a bachelor’s party (or any other essentially masculine party or event) is a great guys cruise. If you are looking for some sort of guy getaway, some variety of party cruise is a promising option to consider.

Another great guy cruise is a Father’s Day cruise, which can take a couple of different forms. First, there are short cruises offered by companies like Spirit Cruises that are explicitly advertised as Father’s Day cruises. “Take your dad out on a cruise for a Father’s Day he won’t forget” is generally how the promotional copy runs. Like booze cruises, these cruises only last a few hours and are essentially only offered in major cities with rivers (places like Washington, Boston, and, again, New York). Often a meal is incorporated into these mini cruises, so you are essentially taking your dad out for dinner at a restaurant that just so happens to be a boat. As far as we know, no major cruise line that offers regular cruise vacations (i.e., multiple-night voyages to some exotic location) advertises a Father’s Day cruise. Perhaps Father’s Day isn’t perceived as significant enough, as there are other holiday cruises (e.g., Christmas cruises). Regardless, you can take a cruise for Father’s Day, as many people do every year, and such a cruise would certainly constitute a great cruise for a guy.

Finally, there are certain themed cruises that might be considered guys cruises simply because their focus is on a topic that men are traditionally more interested in. There are occasionally cruises with NFL legends, to pick another example involving football, and since men in general follow the NFL more closely than women, these might be regarded as guys cruises. Other theme cruises, like Jazz cruises, are basically gender neutral, or at least they aren’t associated with any gender (as it turns out, men may actually like Jazz more than women), so the majority of theme cruises aren’t specifically for men or women.

As you can see, there are a number of great cruises for guys, and they come in totally different forms. Some are only a few hours long, whereas others could be several-night affairs. A few of these cruises are definitionally guys cruises, like bachelor party cruises and Father’s Day cruises, but others have a looser connection to men in particular, so many “guy cruises” could be enjoyed by women too. We don’t want our female readers who also happen to be football fans to think they can’t go on an NFL legends cruise or the Bud Light cruise!
