The Details
For this cruise, Regent Seven Seas has partnered with Smithsonian Journeys to give you The Smithsonian Collection experience, which is an engaging enrichment program including guest speakers, author meetings, and more. Authors Diana and Michael Preston, as well as Natural History and Cultural expert Dr. Robert Szaro, will be just a few of the amazing presenters on this special cruise to South Africa.
The journey of discovery will begin in Lisbon, a legendary city said to be founded by Ulysses (who called it Olisipo). Some say that Lisbon’s name is actually Phoenician, however. But, no matter what the city is called, it’s usually agreed to be one of the most beautiful and fascinating places on earth. In 1977, On All Saints Day, a devastating earthquake destroyed much of ancient Lisbon. But, the city was rebuilt (the Lower City with neo-classical lines) and today it offers many intriguing neighborhoods to uncover.
Regent Seven Seas’ Lisbon to Cape Town Cruise ends on November 15th, in gorgeous Cape Town. Cape Town is often considered “the fairest cape in the whole circumference of the earth.” It’s regarded as one of the most striking spots on the planet, and it offers spectacular beaches and fabulous wineries for visitors’ enjoyment. In Cape Town, you can ride a cable car to the top of Table Mountain (a famous flat-topped peak) or visit the historical Robben Island (a prison that once held anti-apartheid leaders like Nelson Mandela), among other activities.
