Whale Watching Cruises in Delaware
Delaware is a relatively small state, and only a small section of it borders open ocean, so you might not think there are many opportunities for whale watching in Delaware, and in thinking this you would be right: there isn’t much whale watching activity in the state. However, it is nevertheless possible to whale watch, and there are even whale watching cruises that depart from Delaware. Below we detail what is and is not possible in terms of whale watching in Delaware. Read more […] -
Whale Watching Cruises in Maryland
Although whales are periodically spotted off the Maryland coast, no whale watching cruises are offered in the state. It is of course possible to see a whale while on a boat off the coast of Maryland, and we suppose you could even rent a boat to this end, but there are no tour companies that offer whale watching cruises in particular. However, many people are probably looking for whale watching opportunities in Maryland – it borders the Atlantic Ocean, obviously, and there are lots of whale watching cruises north of the state – so we have compiled the following guide to whale watching in Maryland, noting what is, and is not, possible. Swamp Cruises in Louisiana
While there are a number of swamp tours in the states along the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana is definitely where most are concentrated. When you search for “swamp cruises” or variants (“swamp tour,” “swamp boat tour,” and so on), the first few results are almost always for Louisiana. Louisiana’s position as the capital of swamp cruises makes sense, as so much of the state is in fact a swamp; the entire coast is basically a giant wetland, at least for now (rising sea levels are slowly absorbing the marshes into the sea, alas). Below we provide a guide to the swamp cruises of Louisiana, pointing you to who offers them and what you can expect while taking one. Read more […] -
Swamp Cruises in Mississippi
If you are interested in nature and find yourself near the coast in Mississippi, a swamp cruise is a natural possibility to explore. However, since Mississippi’s coastline is relatively short, and since the swamp lands in the state are somewhat limited, there are not many different swamp cruise options to choose from, in contrast to a place like Louisiana. What options exist we detail, though, and we also give a brief overview of what to expect when you take a Mississippi swamp cruise. Read more […] -
Whale Watching Cruises in the Gulf of Mexico
For the last week or so, we’ve been writing about whale watching cruises in the Gulf of Mexico, or rather we’ve been writing about the lack of whale watching cruises in the Gulf of Mexico. Searches for whale watching cruises in all the states along the Gulf of Mexico turned up essentially nothing, so if you are hoping to whale watch in the Gulf of Mexico, you’re basically out of luck. However, we’ve unearthed some good alternatives to whale watching in the Gulf of Mexico, which we detail below, and we also offer some speculation as to why whale watching doesn’t seem to exist in the Gulf of Mexico. Whale Watching Cruises in Mississippi
The focus of this article is negative. We focus not on something, but on the lack of something, namely, the lack of whale watching cruises in Mississippi. As far as we can tell, there are in fact no whale watching cruises in the entire Gulf of Mexico. There are whales in the Gulf of Mexico, so you might think that you’d be able to sail out to see them from a departure point in a place like Mississippi, but these Gulf whales are evidently quite hard to see, so there are no cruises that are designed to enable whale spotting. Mississippi is, in short, not a good place for whale watching, but below we explore some possible alternatives, such as they are, to whale watching in the state, although these may not satisfying those looking to go whale watching.
