A Brand New Ship for Silversea

In a time when most cruise lines aren’t making much progress, Silversea is proving that it’s still very possible by accepting the delivery of their brand new ship, Silver Origin. This was the first in-person delivery of a ship since the start of coronavirus, perhaps indicating that more deliveries will be possible for cruise lines moving forward. Here’s everything you need to know about the delivery of the ship, as well as some specs on the Silver Origin!

    The ceremony

While many ship delivery ceremonies are marked by big crowds and huge celebrations, this one was (understandably) much less intense. It was much more intimate and was attended by just a few of the Silversea higher-ups, among them being the President and CEO of Silversea, their Chief Marketing Officer, a Chairman, and a few more. The event itself took place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

    The building process

Silver Origin was built at the De Hoop Shipyard in the Netherlands. The process itself was obviously a bit strained due to the coronavirus, with the President and CEO of Silversea, Roberto Martinoli, saying that he gives thanks “especially to the De Hoop Shipyard who overcame many challenges to complete the ship.” The shipyard had to focus on building a state-of-the-art ship with an emphasis on sustainability, all during a pandemic, which is impressive to say the least.

    The ship

The Silver Origin is, by all standards, a very exciting new cruise ship. It’s the first ship for Silversea that is designed for a specific destination (in this case, the Galapagos). It is built to have a very low impact on the Galapagos while still offering travelers a sense of true luxury and the ability to interact with the area they are visiting. Perhaps the coolest part about the ship is a sector of it called the Basecamp, where guests can engage with educational materials and listen to lectures from experts on the Galapagos (that are all also residents of the Galapagos). The Basecamp is designed to bring guests up to speed on the area before they go out to explore it – often via kayaks.

Anyone interested in the Galapagos should definitely have their eyes on the Silver Origin. It’s poised to be the ultimate cruising experience for the area while also keeping in mind its fragile nature. If you’re the type of traveler who likes to truly understand the place they’re visiting, this will be the cruise ship for you.

The Nicest Luxury Ships That Are Coming in the Next Few Years

Don’t let anyone tell you different: there are some absolutely amazing new luxury ships coming in the near future. Cruise media may be very preoccupied with the negative effects that coronavirus is having, but that doesn’t change the fact that luxury cruise lines are slated to grow quite a bit in the next few years. We definitely aren’t saying that there’s nothing to be worried about in the near future (falling stocks from a variety of cruise lines indicate that COVID-19 isn’t to be taken lightly), but the bigger picture is one that is actually much more bright and exciting. Don’t believe us? Let’s take a look forward at a few of the coolest new luxury ships!

    Silversea’s Silver Origin

It’s not every day that you come across a ship that is expertly designed to show off the area it will be sailing to. Silversea’s Silver Origin, however, is exactly that. The 5800-ton ship is being touted as the cruise line’s first ever “destination specific ship.” It’s made specifically for the Galapagos and features a staff of experts on the area that will be there to make the traveling experience that much more well-informed. It also sports a look that feels intensely modern, with huge glass walls and futuristic furniture. Oh, and it features 90 crew members compared to 100 guests. That’s a pretty darn good ratio – in fact, it’s the best of any Galapagos cruise ship. You can expect the ship this year, and Silversea has its itineraries already available for booking on their WEBSITE. https://www.silversea.com/ships/silver-origin.html

    Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot

It’s 2020, folks. Even our most adventurous ships should be incredibly eco-conscious! Ponant’s Le Commandant Charcot is a luxury ship that fits that role precisely. It won’t be ready until 2021, but we’re already getting pretty excited about it. It’s an icebreaking ship capable of trudging all the way up to the North Pole, yet it is completely powered by electricity and liquefied natural gas (which we have covered over HERE, if you want to read about why it’s so awesome). Additionally, it promises an impressive crew to passenger ratio, as well as a design that is focused on displaying light and the environment you are surrounded by. Overall, though, we just love what it represents. Vacationing to these locales can be incredible, and it’s nice to know that your impact won’t be changing too much of the place that was life changing for you to see.

    Crystal’s Crystal Endeavor

The Crystal Endeavor will be the kind of ship that screams luxury. The ratio of crew to guests will be one to one (yeah, seriously), they plan to cruise a day with the famous Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, and all the suites have private verandas, butler service and amazing interior design. From the casino to the Connoisseur Club (a cigar lounge), the place looks beyond exquisite. More than anything, this ship pushes high-class cruising to its limits. It will launch later this year, so stay excited and keep an eye out.

Whoo! Looking at all of these luxury cruise ships got us really amped up about the ships of the future. Times may be troubling now, but don’t lose hope for cruises. The industry will surely bounce back, and there’s a lot be excited about when it does.
