The Port City of Tampa: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise

Despite being located in Florida, the main hub of the global cruise industry, Tampa, or more precisely Port Tampa Bay, is not particularly busy in terms of cruise traffic. This places it in stark contrast to other Florida ports, especially Miami, the busiest cruise port in the world. Even so, six ships from four different cruise lines sail from Tampa, and there are cruises all year long (albeit only from Carnival), so it's obviously an active cruise port, and thousands of people pass through it each week. If you happen to be one of these people and you have some spare time before leaving on your cruise, we've outlined some things to see and do. With only a few hours free, you can get in a mini-vacation before your actual vacation by checking out what Tampa has to offer. Read more [...]

The Port City of Seattle: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise

Along with Vancouver, Seattle is the major cruise port of the Pacific Northwest. Nearly a million people will pass through the cruise terminals in 2014, and seven cruise lines operating 11 vessels are based in Seattle. If you are taking a cruise to Alaska and/or Canada, there is a reasonably good chance you'll find yourself in Seattle, and if you have some spare time before or after your cruise, we have compiled a guide of things to see and do. The Port City of San Francisco: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise

San Francisco is one of America's iconic cities, and should you find yourself in town before leaving on a cruise, there will be no shortage of things to see and do. However, vacationers setting off on a cruise often don't have much time in the city of their departure, and their transportation options may be limited as well. In light of this, we have designed a guide of things to see and do in San Francisco strictly with cruise vacationers in mind. If you have some time before leaving on (or after returning from) your cruise, follow our lead to make the best of your time in the city. Read more [...]

The Port City of San Diego: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise

San Diego is a nice place to find yourself if you have some spare time - like before leaving on a cruise, for instance. As is the case with most large American cities, there are plenty of things to see and do in San Diego, and we have highlighted a few sights and activities in particular that could be experienced before or after a cruise. If you have multiple days in San Diego, you can essentially do whatever you want, and this obviously includes what we list below; however, we have made recommendations with cruise vacationers in mind who may only have a few hours to spare. So, what we write shouldn't be taken as an exhaustive list of all that San Diego has to offer. We are only writing, as the title implies, a list of the things to see and do before leaving on a cruise (or after you return). Read more [...]

The Port City of New York: Things to Do and See Before Leaving on a Cruise

It is in many ways absurd to write about what you can see and do in New York before leaving on a cruise. One of the most famous cities in the world, bursting with culture and global significance, there is almost nothing you can't do in New York City. For this reason, it is also somewhat questionable to refer to New York as a "port city," as if the port is the reason New York is notable. (Then again, it is in fact a port city, and we've called other major cities "port cities," so we're comfortable Read more [...]

The Port City of Norfolk, Virginia: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise

The Port of Norfolk, Virginia is not known for its heavy cruise traffic. In recent years, only Carnival has operated out of the port, and in 2014, even Carnival stopped offering cruises out of Norfolk, Virginia. However, Carnival is returning the Virginia port to offer seasonal cruises in 2015 on the Carnival Splendor, which will sail to the Bahamas and Bermuda. Norfolk is by no means a major cruise port, but tens of thousands of people will soon be cruising from the port each year, and if you are one of these people, here are some things to see and do before leaving on a cruise from Norfolk, Virginia.
