The Galapagos isn’t your typical cruise destination. It offers sightseeing on a level that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Don’t let its relative obscurity make you think that it’s not worth working into your travel dreams. Beautiful islands, incredible wildlife, and a real sense of adventure can all be found on an itinerary based around the Galapagos Islands. Here are three of our favorite things about the Galapagos!
The wildlife
There’s no way you can talk about the Galapagos without talking about the animals that can be found there. The environment on each island is unlike that found anywhere else on the planet, and that means that you’ll find some wildlife that is seriously unique. If you’re someone with a love for the wonderful creatures of our world, you’ll want to keep a close eye out. You can spot Galapagos tortoises, iguanas, penguins, sea lions, and more. Oh, and for the history buffs out there, you can also spy the famous finches that Darwin based his theory of evolution around. How cool is that?
Getting far from civilization
Cruises are a great way to get away from the daily grind that is life. But many itineraries don’t really give you that feeling of dropping off of the grid. The Galapagos Islands, however, will make you feel like you’re on an adventure far away from society. There are islands that are further from land than the Galapagos, but nature has been kept pristine there. Suffice to say that you won’t find a gift shop on each island. You’ll still have the comfort of your ship, of course, but you’ll also get that cleansing feeling of being away from the stress of normal life. It’s powerful.
The water activities
Sitting on your boat and basking in the glory of the islands is cool and all, but it’s even better to get into the water and really experience it yourself. Almost all Galapagos itineraries offer you some way to do exactly that. You can kayak around the rocky shores of the islands or swim around in the water with a snorkel to take a look at what’s beneath the waves. If you have the time, a guided Zodiac tour is totally worth it as well. If you get the chance to interact with the islands like this, we strongly suggest taking it.
Another great part about travelling to the Galapagos: it isn’t just for travelers with a big budget. You can make it to the islands without breaking the bank if you shop with the right cruise lines. In other words: there’s no excuse not to go. Yeah, we said it!
