Cruises are a really great way to get some relaxation. But they’re equally suited for travelers more interested in adventure. You can access some of the most exciting corners of the Earth from a cruise ship. If you want to go on a true journey, any of these three destinations would be perfect.
New Zealand really is the best of both worlds when it comes to cruise vacations. If you want to spend some chill days on the beach, you can easily do that here. But it’s also an ideal country to hit up if you need some adrenaline. You can hop off the boat and immediately go on a remote backpacking expedition in one of the many amazing national parks, if that’s what you’re into. The mountains and fjords of New Zealand offer endless adventure opportunities beyond that, as well. One favorite activity of many travelers is to go paragliding through canyons. Simply travelling around New Zealand can also be an adventure in and of itself, so we strongly recommend putting this country at the top of your list.
We’ve been pretty big advocates of Alaskan cruises for a while now, so we just couldn’t help ourselves when it came to this list. But, honestly, there really are few places that can offer the same level of adventure as Alaska. Even if we ignore the fact that Alaska has the tallest mountain in North America with Denali (many mountaineers even recommend climbing Everest as training for it), the state has an endless list of possible adventures. Whale watching, snowshoeing, hiking up mountains, boat rides alongside glaciers. You name it, Alaska has it. We recommend Alaska for adventurers that don’t mind a slight element of danger. There’s always a chance you run into a Grizzly on a hike, so this isn’t the destination for those who are faint of heart.
Most people think of Hawaii as a cushy cruise trip that offers very little excitement. You can definitely have that kind of experience in Hawaii if that’s what you want, but there are also many thrills to be had here. Hiking up the side of a volcano is an outing for the books even if there is no lava present (and it’s even crazier when you can see some!). You can also rent a sailboat and travel along the coast or go diving with beautiful sea animals. The hotels here are luxurious, sure, but there’s lots of exhilaration to be had if you take a step off the well travelled paths.
Feeling a bit of wanderlust? Yeah, we are too. The world is full of opportunities for adventure. You just need to know the right place to look!
