What are the best winter cruise destinations? That’s a question that many start asking themselves once December rolls around. Winter is actually one of the best seasons to go on a cruise: it coincides with the holidays, many travelers have time off from work, and most importantly, it’s great to get away from the dreary cold weather. There are many places around the world that are great to visit on a cruise ship between December and March. Here are three of our favorites.
Located in Central America, Belize often takes a backseat compared to heavy hitter cruise locations like the Bahamas. But don’t let that fool you: Belize is one of the finest winter cruise destinations in the world. The weather is pretty much perfect in the country, with highs around 80 degrees and lows around 70 degrees throughout the winter months. That’s ideal for all the cruise activities that you love while still not being hot enough that it’s sweltering. Belize also has lots of fun, adventurous activities that are different from what you might find on a traditional Bahamas cruise. For instance, you can even visit ancient Mayan ruins! It’s hard to beat that.
Mexico has all that you could possibly want on a cruise. The weather is warm and temperate through the winter, the waters are calm, and the beaches are gorgeous. Two of the most famous cruise spots in all of Mexico are Cabo San Lucas and Cozumel, and both are equally as exciting. They do offer different opportunities, however. Cozumel is an island, and that means that you’ll have a more contained experience. Cabo San Lucas, however, is a city on the coast, giving you more choices for how you want to spend your vacation.
Sure, you could spend your winter on a Caribbean cruise. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. But why not inject a little bit more adventure into your vacation by visiting the Galapagos? Not only is it a more “off the beaten path” kind of destination, but you can also see things there that you can see nowhere else. The unique flora and fauna of the region is world famous – and for good reason. There’s great weather throughout the year in the area, but the generally accepted best time to visit begins in December and lasts through spring. That makes the Galapagos an ideal winter cruise destination.
The best part about these destinations is that most major cruise lines have itineraries to them. If you want to get away from it all and enjoy your winter in style, we recommend any of these locations!
