The Definition of a Luxury Cruise
The title of this article might seem like the slogan of a luxury cruise line, perhaps appearing in a context such as this: Eternity Cruises, the definition of a luxury cruise. (Eternity Cruises is not actually a company – it just sounds like the type of name a luxury cruise line might have.) However, we are after the literal definition of “luxury cruise.” What exactly qualifies a cruise as “luxurious?” Is there any reason for a non-luxury cruise line to pretend as if it is a luxury cruise line? What, in short, is a luxury cruise? Read more […] -
Cruises To Go
Lots of things can be ordered “to go,” but cruises aren’t one of them. Indeed, it is entirely nonsensical to seek a cruise to go. A category mistake permeates the very notion of “to-go cruises,” as a cruise is just not the sort of thing that can be ordered to go. But, of course, people searching for cruises to go are not looking for take-out cruises. Rather, they are probably looking for one of two things, neither of which is called “Cruises To Go.” First, one might be looking for Vacations To Go, a cruise deal site that specializes in last-minutes cruises. The other possibility is that they are looking for Four Seasons Cruises and Tours, which owns the URL cruisetogo.com. Rather than focus on “Cruises To Go” as an incoherent concept or as a nonexistent company, we’ll focus on these two other companies that might mistakenly be called “Cruises To Go.” Read more […] -
Disney Cruise Dream
“Disney Cruise Dream” could refer to one of two things, and it depends on the phrase’s grammatical context. If one is speaking of a Disney cruise dream (note the lowercase letters), he or she is referring to a dream that involves a Disney cruise. We imagine that lots of people dream of Disney cruises, especially small children gearing up for their first cruise adventure. More likely, though, people are curious about the Disney Dream, one of the big new cruise ships of the Disney Cruise Line. For Read more […] -
Fred. Olson Cruise Lines
When you see “Fred. Olson Cruise Lines” written, you might suspect someone made a typo. In fact, you might suspect they made two typos – there is the seemingly inexplicable period after “Fred,” and also the fact that the cruise line (and it is only one cruise line) refers to itself in the plural. Fred. Olson Cruise Lines is the company’s name, though, however strange it strikes one at first. But of course the company’s name is of little interest. We are here to discuss the cruise line itself, which is largely unknown outside the U.K. Below we provide an overview of Fred. Olson Cruise Lines for any of our readers who are debating taking a Fred. Olson cruise or who simply want to learn more about this strangely named company. Read more […] -
CDF Croisières de France
CDF Croisières de France, as the name pretty clearly suggests, is a French cruise line, an enthusiastically French cruise line, in fact. It is headquartered in Paris and is focused almost exclusively on the French cruise market. The language used on board CDF cruises is French, and the cruise line’s website is exclusively in French. (As anyone who deals with multilingual European sites on a regular basis knows, it is pretty rare for a company or institution of even modest size not to have an English version of their website.) So, why write in English about CDF Croisières de France, given that the cruise line evidently has no interest in reaching the English-speaking peoples? Well, there are few different reasons, and we like to leave no cruise line unexplored, so we’ve provided a basic overview of CDF below. Read more […] -
How to Find a Repositioning Cruise
Finding a repositioning cruise (or “repo cruise” or “transitional cruise”) is harder than you might imagine (if you have ever even imagined finding repositioning cruises at all – they are often overlooked). Why exactly it is difficult to find a repositioning cruise is a bit strange – they are basically a win-win for cruise lines and passengers alike – but the world doesn’t always make sense. What matters is that they are a little hard to track down, so we’ve decided to outline exactly how to find a repositioning cruise below. Read more […]
