  • Norwegian Cruise Line – It’s the Free Style Cruising Cruise Line, No Matter How You Spell It

We all know that the word “Norwegian” can be (relatively) hard to spell for those unfamiliar with it. Vowels are always difficult to keep track of, and “Norwegian” has plenty of them, making it hard to “sound out,” to resort to first-grade parlance. It is for this reason that one might question the wisdom of naming a cruise line “Norwegian Cruise Line.” The name is butchered all the time in the searches we get: “Norweigian Cruise Line,” “Norweigen Cruise Line,” and so on. If you can’t even spell the company’s name, how are you going to look it up? (Ok, obviously it’s not that hard, but still.) How did Norwegian Cruise Line come to be, and what is Norwegian Cruise Line anyway? Read more […]
  • Discovery Cruise Line

Discovery Cruise Line, often incorrectly pluralized as Discovery Cruise Lines, was a cruise line that ceased operations on September 6th, 2011. Being defunct, we can’t tell you the standard information about Discovery Cruise Line that we normally would about other operational cruise lines (we can’t explain, for example, how to book a Discovery cruise), but an article about the company is nevertheless justified. Discovery was a highly unique enterprise – many passengers remember it fondly (although others don’t), and people still seek information about it to this day. For the latter reason, we have compiled a basic overview of Discovery Cruise Line and the niche it filled in the cruise industry. Read more […]
  • The Ordeal of the Carnival Triumph “Cruise from Hell”, Now Docked in Alabama

The Carnival Triumph, the Carnival cruise ship that was adrift in the Gulf Mexico for the past five days, finally arrived to a port in Mobile, Alabama early today. They arrived to port hungry and dirty, but nevertheless relieved that the Carnival Triumph ordeal had ended at last. Read more […]

Fortunately, cheap cruises to Alaska are not particularly hard to come by. Indeed, since there are so many Alaskan cruises each year, finding a cheap cruise to Alaska is actually one of the easier cruise deals to secure. Below we’ll explain the basics of finding a cheap cruise to Alaska, covering general advice about finding cheap cruises and how this advice specifically relates to Alaskan cruises. Read more […]
  • The Thomson Cruises Lifeboat Accident in the Canary Islands

Five people died and another three were injured today when a lifeboat fell from the Thomson Majesty, the newest cruise ship in the Thomson Cruises fleet that was docked in La Palma, Canary Islands, which are part of Spain. All of the eight people affected by the lifeboat accident were crew members of Thomson, which is owned by the German company TUI. The lifeboat fell off the vessel during an emergency drill, plummeting nearly 100 feet (30 meters) and then crashing into the water below. Although there were about 2,000 passengers on board the Thomson Majesty, none of them were involved in the emergency drill. Read more […]
  • The Destinations of Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises, the luxury cruise line ever at risk of having its name misspoken (“Silverseas Cruises”) or misspelled (“Silver Sea Cruises” or “Silver Seas Cruises), travels to destinations all over the world. In this regard, they are like other major cruise lines. However, unlike other major cruise lines, Silversea operates a fleet of only six small ships (as covered in our article about the cruise ships of Silversea Cruises), and while this limits the number of cruises Silversea can offer each year, it does allow them to reach more remote destinations. The present article examines the destinations visited by Silversea Cruises, as well as why you might want to take a Silversea cruise to one of these destinations. Read more […]
