  • The Features of the Epic Cruise Ship

The Epic cruise ship is an alternative name for the Norwegian Epic, the largest cruise ship (at least until the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus are built) in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. In our previous article about this vessel, we covered the basics of its size and history, but we were unable to cover what is distinctive about the Norwegian Epic. The ship boasts a number of unique features, and even though it has only been operating for a few years, it has attracted a lot of attention, mostly positive. The ship has also been highly innovative in its design and entertainment offerings, pushing the cruising industry to ever higher standards. Read more […]
  • Epic Cruise Ship

By “Epic cruise ship,” one of two things could be meant. First, when the phrase is spelled with all lowercase letters and is preceded by an indefinite article – “an epic cruise ship” – it only means any given cruise ship that might be described as “epic” (probably in the sense of “awesome” or “great,” not “of or relating to an epic poem”). However, “Epic cruise ship” might also refer to the Norwegian Epic, the largest cruise ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) fleet and at one point the third largest cruise ship in the world. It is to the Norwegian Epic that we focus on in the present article. Read more […]
  • Norwegian Cruise Line – It’s the Free Style Cruising Cruise Line, No Matter How You Spell It

We all know that the word “Norwegian” can be (relatively) hard to spell for those unfamiliar with it. Vowels are always difficult to keep track of, and “Norwegian” has plenty of them, making it hard to “sound out,” to resort to first-grade parlance. It is for this reason that one might question the wisdom of naming a cruise line “Norwegian Cruise Line.” The name is butchered all the time in the searches we get: “Norweigian Cruise Line,” “Norweigen Cruise Line,” and so on. If you can’t even spell the company’s name, how are you going to look it up? (Ok, obviously it’s not that hard, but still.) How did Norwegian Cruise Line come to be, and what is Norwegian Cruise Line anyway? Read more […]
  • The Cruise Ships of Norwegian Cruise Line

We recently wrote about the Norwegian Cruise Line and their “freestyle cruising” ways, but we didn’t cover the specific cruise ships that make up the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. That’s why we decided to write this article; after all, what is a cruise line if not the fleet of ships that compose it? Read more […]
  • Norwegian Cruise Line and Its “Freestyle Cruising” Philosophy

The Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), formed in 1966 under the name Norwegian Caribbean Line, is a company that operates cruise ships that have an on-board policy of “Freestyle Cruising” (explained below). Based in Miami-Dade County, Florida, half of the company is owned by Star Cruises, which is the third largest cruise line in the world (behind Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Cruises), and the other half is owned by Apollo Management, a private equity investment firm.
