  • How to Book Cheap Mediterranean Cruises

By now, regular readers will have noticed our recent preoccupation with cheap Mediterranean cruises. A Mediterranean cruise is about as close as you can get to a perfect vacation, and the cruise will be doubly good if you can get it at a discounted rate. So we consider them a worthy topic to dwell on, and as a consequence we have covered such topics as the cruise lines that offer cheap Mediterranean cruises and the destinations that can be visited on a cheap cruise in the Mediterranean. However, we have yet to explain how to book a cheap Mediterranean cruise (or “cheap Med cruise,” to use the common abbreviation), a gap that must be filled in case we have persuaded readers to buy a ticket to sail on the glorious Mediterranean Sea. • The Norwegian Breakaway, the Newest Ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line Fleet

Although it sounds like a book about Norway’s declaration of independence (which was actually a dissolution of its union with Sweden in 1905), the Norwegian Breakaway is in fact a cruise ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet with regular departures from New York, all year long. From May to September, it sails to Bermuda, and from October to April it sails to Florida and the Bahamas. It is the newest ship in the NCL fleet, having been built in 2013, although the Norwegian Getaway, which is in the same class as the Norwegian Breakaway (the Breakaway Class), will be put into service soon. Below you will find some basic information about this ship, which as a new ship has garnered lots of attention. Huge new cruise ships like the Norwegian Breakaway aren’t built every day, after all, and the introduction of a new vessel to a fleet can fundamentally alter a cruise line. Read more […]
  • The Features of the Epic Cruise Ship

The Epic cruise ship is an alternative name for the Norwegian Epic, the largest cruise ship (at least until the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus are built) in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. In our previous article about this vessel, we covered the basics of its size and history, but we were unable to cover what is distinctive about the Norwegian Epic. The ship boasts a number of unique features, and even though it has only been operating for a few years, it has attracted a lot of attention, mostly positive. The ship has also been highly innovative in its design and entertainment offerings, pushing the cruising industry to ever higher standards. Read more […]
  • Epic Cruise Ship

By “Epic cruise ship,” one of two things could be meant. First, when the phrase is spelled with all lowercase letters and is preceded by an indefinite article – “an epic cruise ship” – it only means any given cruise ship that might be described as “epic” (probably in the sense of “awesome” or “great,” not “of or relating to an epic poem”). However, “Epic cruise ship” might also refer to the Norwegian Epic, the largest cruise ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) fleet and at one point the third largest cruise ship in the world. It is to the Norwegian Epic that we focus on in the present article. Read more […]
  • How Huge Cruise Ships are Ruining Venice, According to Venetians

Imagine spending a day in Venice, Italy. You are walking near the shore, in front of Doge’s Palace, enjoying the warm Italian sun. Suddenly, though, the sun is blocked by an enormous cruise ship that towers over the city as it slowly sails through the Giudecca Canal. If this image concerns you, you are not alone, as many residents of Venice are growing increasingly irritated by and concerned about the near-constant flow of huge cruise ships that sail into the ancient Italian city. • Cheap Mediterranean Cruises: To Where Can You Take One?

We’ve recently been writing about cheap Mediterranean cruises, but largely in the abstract. We first covered the basics of these types of discounted cruise vacations, and then we explained which cruise lines offer cheap Mediterranean cruises, but we haven’t yet specified the exact places a Mediterranean cruise will take you. Obviously, a Mediterranean cruise will take place in the Mediterranean Sea, or at least a large portion of it will, but this doesn’t tell you much. The Mediterranean region of the world, having slowly developed over the course of thousands of years, is bursting with different cultures, sights, and attractions, so we figured it was only proper to explore in more detail the riches of this cruise-accessible area.
