    Oceania Cruises: An Overview

Oceania Cruises, sometimes called “Oceania Cruise Line” or just “Oceania,” is a luxury cruise line based in Miami, Florida. It is owned by Apollo Global Management, the enormous American private equity firm that also owns (among many other things) another luxury cruise line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Oceania operates four vessels and is the largest luxury cruise line in the world. (Although the word “luxury” is somewhat imprecise, so perhaps a larger cruise line that calls itself “luxurious” – an attractive marketing word – is larger.) Like other luxury cruise lines, Oceania Cruises is less well-known than some of the giants of the cruise industry, so below we shed some light on the company and its cruises. Read more […]
  • Seabourn Cruise Line: An Overview

Seabourn Cruise Line is a luxury cruise line whose fleet of six ships sail all over the world. Despite being founded relatively recently (1986), Seabourn has a somewhat complicated ownership history, but as of 2001 the cruise line has been entirely owned by the world’s largest cruise ship operator, Carnival. Of the various cruise lines owned by Carnival, it is the smallest by market share at .3 percent, but as an operator of luxury ships it targets a niche audience. Seabourn Cruise Line was originally based in Miami, Florida, but in 2011 it transferred its operations to Seattle, Washington. Read more […]
  • How to Book Halong Bay Cruises

Halong Bay cruises are a perfect way to explore one of the most beautiful areas in the world. It is plenty enjoyable to behold the natural beauty of Halong Bay (sometimes spelled “Ha Long Bay”) from the mainland of Vietnam, where the bay is located, but nothing will acquaint you with the compact body of water and its thousands of small islets, which together constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site, like a Halong Bay cruise. This much we have covered in our overview of Halong Bay cruises. What we did not cover in this previous article is how to book a Halong Bay cruise, and hence the article before you. While there is nothing particularly complicated about booking a Halong Bay cruise, it’s a little different than booking a standard cruise vacation for reasons that will soon become clear. • Halong Bay Cruises

Halong Bay (also spelled “Ha Long Bay”) is a popular travel destination in Vietnam. Located along the northeastern coast of the country, Halong Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, of which there are less than 1,000 in the world. Given that Halong Bay is such a noteworthy destination and that it is, well, a bay, it is not particularly surprising that there are a number of Halong Bay cruises (or Ha Long Bay cruises, if you must). Unless the breadth of your cruise industry knowledge is enormous (or you are actively planning a trip to Vietnam), you probably have not given much thought to a Halong Bay cruise, so below we’ve provided some basic information about these cruises. What are Halong Bay cruises all about? Read more […]
  • The Difference Between Freedom Ship, the “City at Sea,” and Freedom of the Seas, the Royal Caribbean International Ship

The word “freedom” is used in a lot of names, including cruise ship names. This makes a certain amount of sense, as freedom is among the chief rights preserved and valued in almost all civilized societies. Why wouldn’t you want to name your company after freedom? Because the word is used so often, however, it is often hard to keep all the different “freedom” names straight. For example, you may confuse Freedom Ship, a wild ambition to build a city at sea, and Freedom of the Seas, a large cruise ship in the Royal Caribbean International fleet. Although nominally similar, Freedom Ship and Freedom of the Seas are entirely different entities. One is a cruise ship, the other a plan in the works, so Freedom Ship and Freedom of the Seas don’t even share the most basic ontological trait, namely, existence. Below is a little bit about Freedom Ship and Freedom of the Seas, which we have supplied to make the difference between the two crystal clear. Read more […]
  • Freedom Ship: Will the Biggest Ship of All Time Ever be Built?

We’ve recently been writing about Freedom Ship, which if built would be the biggest ship of all time a few times over. We wrote an introduction to Freedom Ship, and we also speculated about what life would be like on board Freedom Ship. You’ll notice that we wrote “if built” above, and this is an essential part of the Freedom Ship project – at this point, it is merely a dream, one that almost certainly won’t be realized any time soon. The biggest ship of all time is as of now not a ship at all; indeed, there is not even a finalized plan for the Freedom Ship’s design. Will Freedom Ship ever be built? Read more […]
