Oceania Cruises: An Overview
Oceania Cruises, sometimes called “Oceania Cruise Line” or just “Oceania,” is a luxury cruise line based in Miami, Florida. It is owned by Apollo Global Management, the enormous American private equity firm that also owns (among many other things) another luxury cruise line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Oceania operates four vessels and is the largest luxury cruise line in the world. (Although the word “luxury” is somewhat imprecise, so perhaps a larger cruise line that calls itself “luxurious” – an attractive marketing word – is larger.) Like other luxury cruise lines, Oceania Cruises is less well-known than some of the giants of the cruise industry, so below we shed some light on the company and its cruises. Read more […] -
Repositioning Cruises: Which Cruise Lines Offer Them?
Repositioning cruises serve a crucial function in the global cruise industry, but they are often overlooked. This is at least partially understandable, given that only certain people can realistically take repositioning cruises, and also that cruise lines often don’t explicitly advertise these voyages as “repositioning cruises.” This latter point is important, as it can cause people to operate on the mistaken assumption that not many cruise lines actually offer repositioning cruises. In fact, almost all the major cruise lines, and a number of smaller cruise lines as well, operate repositioning cruises. They have to relocate their ships somehow, and they may as well transport their vessels with lots of paying customers on board. Read more […] -
The Norwegian Breakaway, the Newest Ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line Fleet
Although it sounds like a book about Norway’s declaration of independence (which was actually a dissolution of its union with Sweden in 1905), the Norwegian Breakaway is in fact a cruise ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet with regular departures from New York, all year long. From May to September, it sails to Bermuda, and from October to April it sails to Florida and the Bahamas. It is the newest ship in the NCL fleet, having been built in 2013, although the Norwegian Getaway, which is in the same class as the Norwegian Breakaway (the Breakaway Class), will be put into service soon. Below you will find some basic information about this ship, which as a new ship has garnered lots of attention. Huge new cruise ships like the Norwegian Breakaway aren’t built every day, after all, and the introduction of a new vessel to a fleet can fundamentally alter a cruise line. Read more […] -
The Cruise Line MSC Cruises
MSC Cruises is a cruise line that is owned by the Mediterranean Shipping Company, an enormous shipping line (the world’s largest, in fact, in terms of container vessel capacity) based in Geneva. The current fleet of MSC Cruises is composed of 11 ships, a small percentage of the 463 vessels operated by the Mediterranean Shipping Company. MSC Cruises has a six percent share of the cruise industry, making it the fourth largest cruise line in the world. Below you will find some basic information about MSC Cruises. Read more […] -
Singles Cruises: Which Cruise Ships Offer Singles Cruises?
Singles cruises are distinct from regular cruises in a few different respects, but they are alike in at least one major way: both types of cruises are offered by the same cruise lines, which means that singles cruises take place on the same cruise ships as regular cruises. There are not, in other words, special cruise ships that are only for singles cruises. The same cruise ships are used for theme cruises (like singles cruises) and regular cruises alike. However, there are a lot fewer singles cruises than regular cruises, so there is smaller pool of possible vessels to choose from when booking a singles cruise. Thanks to resources out there that provide information about singles cruises, it is easy to compile a list of the cruise ships that are used for singles cruises. We have compiled such a list, as well as added some general notes about it. Read more […] -
Singles Cruises: Which Cruise Lines Offer Singles Cruises?
Singles cruises, as we explained in a recent article about this form of cruise vacation, are many things. While the focus of many a singles cruise is on dating and meeting other singles with an eye toward romance, this is by no means the only reason you might want to take a singles cruise vacation. There are singles cruises for specific age groups and other demographics (like religious groups), and not all the singles that take such cruises are interested in finding a romantic partner. They might merely be looking to meet other like-minded people who share their interests, or they might only be interested in forming friendships with individuals who are at a similar stage in their lives as themselves. No matter your reason for taking a singles cruise, it is relevant to know which of the many cruise lines offer singles cruises. And so we aim to answer this simple question: what cruise lines offer singles cruises? Read more […]
