  • The Features of the Epic Cruise Ship

The Epic cruise ship is an alternative name for the Norwegian Epic, the largest cruise ship (at least until the Breakaway and Breakaway Plus are built) in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. In our previous article about this vessel, we covered the basics of its size and history, but we were unable to cover what is distinctive about the Norwegian Epic. The ship boasts a number of unique features, and even though it has only been operating for a few years, it has attracted a lot of attention, mostly positive. The ship has also been highly innovative in its design and entertainment offerings, pushing the cruising industry to ever higher standards. Read more […]
  • Epic Cruise Ship

By “Epic cruise ship,” one of two things could be meant. First, when the phrase is spelled with all lowercase letters and is preceded by an indefinite article – “an epic cruise ship” – it only means any given cruise ship that might be described as “epic” (probably in the sense of “awesome” or “great,” not “of or relating to an epic poem”). However, “Epic cruise ship” might also refer to the Norwegian Epic, the largest cruise ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) fleet and at one point the third largest cruise ship in the world. It is to the Norwegian Epic that we focus on in the present article. Read more […]
  • The Destinations of Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises, the luxury cruise line ever at risk of having its name misspoken (“Silverseas Cruises”) or misspelled (“Silver Sea Cruises” or “Silver Seas Cruises), travels to destinations all over the world. In this regard, they are like other major cruise lines. However, unlike other major cruise lines, Silversea operates a fleet of only six small ships (as covered in our article about the cruise ships of Silversea Cruises), and while this limits the number of cruises Silversea can offer each year, it does allow them to reach more remote destinations. The present article examines the destinations visited by Silversea Cruises, as well as why you might want to take a Silversea cruise to one of these destinations. Read more […]
  • The Cruise Ships of Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises (alternatively, but incorrectly, called “Silverseas Cruises,” and occasionally spelled “Silver Sea Cruises” or “Silver Seas Cruises”) has a relatively small fleet consisting of only six vessels. They range in size, although they are all small by cruise-ship standards. Of course, the size of a ship does not correspond to the quality of services it offers, and in any case smaller cruise ships enjoy definite advantages over their larger counterparts. Below we have compiled some information about all the Silversea Cruises cruise ships, including both general information about the fleet and specific information about each ship. Read more […]
  • Seasteading and Cruises

What is seasteading, and how is it related to cruising? Or, to ask a related question, is a seastead the same thing as a cruise ship? The concepts of seasteading and cruising are clearly related, as they both involve prolonged stays at sea, and they may also (but not necessarily) utilize the same technologies. However, the two are distinct in major respects, as seasteading is a more novel and radical idea than cruising, the latter of which takes the form of vacations at sea that most people (and certainly readers of this site) are familiar with. In this article, we explore the intersection of seasteading and cruising, which will require us to answer these three questions: what is seasteading? What is cruising? How are they related and how are they different? Read more […]
  • The Difference Between Freedom Ship, the “City at Sea,” and Freedom of the Seas, the Royal Caribbean International Ship

The word “freedom” is used in a lot of names, including cruise ship names. This makes a certain amount of sense, as freedom is among the chief rights preserved and valued in almost all civilized societies. Why wouldn’t you want to name your company after freedom? Because the word is used so often, however, it is often hard to keep all the different “freedom” names straight. For example, you may confuse Freedom Ship, a wild ambition to build a city at sea, and Freedom of the Seas, a large cruise ship in the Royal Caribbean International fleet. Although nominally similar, Freedom Ship and Freedom of the Seas are entirely different entities. One is a cruise ship, the other a plan in the works, so Freedom Ship and Freedom of the Seas don’t even share the most basic ontological trait, namely, existence. Below is a little bit about Freedom Ship and Freedom of the Seas, which we have supplied to make the difference between the two crystal clear. Read more […]
