Looking Ahead: News on Three New Cruise Ships

New cruise ships are on the horizon. Disney, Cunard, and Celebrity are all prepping additions to their fleets. Maybe it’s time to start getting excited about the future of cruising again! It’s been hard to be optimistic about the cruise industry over the course of the pandemic, but things are starting to look up now. The Conditional Sailing Order has ended, cruise bookings are up, and new vessels promise to bring renewed enthusiasm into the world of cruising. Here is the latest on three ships that are worth looking forward to.

    Cunard Prepares Newest Ship

Cunard is one of the oldest cruise lines around, and every new ship that they get adds to their legacy. As of right now, their fleet is quite small: they only have three active vessels. They announced way back in 2017 that they would be acquiring a newbuild ship from Fincantieri, though, and fans of the cruise line have been patiently waiting ever since. Very little has been revealed about the ship over the years, but it seems that might be changing soon. The company tweeted out on February 7th: “Something very special is on the horizon. Join us here at 1 p.m. GMT (8 a.m. EDT) on the 8th February for an exciting announcement or visit our YouTube channel.” Speculation immediately began, with many tweets guessing that the ship’s name would be revealed in the video. This just means Cunard is one step closer to sailing with their new vessel!

Celebrity Beyond Ready for April Debut

Celebrity’s newest ship is nearly ready to start sailing. Celebrity Beyond was ordered back in 2016 as an addition to the cruise line’s Edge class. Two other ships are currently in the class: Celebrity Apex and Celebrity Edge. These vessels are Celebrity’s largest, with the two existing ships being about 5000 tons larger than Celebrity Reflection, the largest in the Solstice Class. Celebrity Beyond is set to be even larger (their largest ship yet!), and it has just completed its sea trials. That means that the ship is confirmed to be ready for its debut set for April 27th, 2022. In just a few months, Celebrity’s biggest ship will be taking travelers around the world!

    A Delay for Disney Wish

Disney Wish is a ship that many in the industry have been excited for since the days before COVID. Unfortunately, we will all have to wait just a little bit longer. After a few delays, its inaugural cruise was set for June 9th, 2022. However, this has now been pushed even further back to July 14th, 2022. Disney cited the impact of Omicron on the building process in Germany as the reason for this.

Each of these ships promises to revitalize their respective cruise lines. Which are you most excited for?

  • A Look at Disney Cruise Line’s Next Ship, Disney Wish

A Look at Disney Cruise Line’s Next Ship, Disney Wish

The time is slowly ticking down until Disney Wish is introduced to the world. It is set to be the first addition to Disney Cruise Line’s fleet since Disney Fantasy was unveiled in 2012. Let’s get excited for this new ship by taking a look at all of the details that we have so far.

    The specs

There are still a large number of unknown details about Disney Wish, but we have a general idea of what to expect. The ship will be in the Triton class and will clock in at 144,000 tons, making it the largest ship in the Disney fleet by a good amount. The previous two ships in the fleet, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, are both in the same class and check in at only 129,690 tons. Disney Wish won’t be at the absolute cutting edge in terms of cruise ship size, but it will still be able to accommodate lots of passengers very comfortably. In fact, there will be a total of 1,250 staterooms, giving the ship a max capacity of somewhere between 2500 and 3500 guests. It will feature 11 decks and will be powered by liquefied natural gas – an exciting first for the cruise line.

    The history

Due to the pandemic, Disney Wish has had a bit of a longer history than the cruise line was initially hoping for. It was announced back in early 2016, and work began at the Meyer Werft shipyard soon after. The ship was slated for a debut in January 2022, but coronavirus-related delays in construction caused Disney to push that date back to June 2022. Disney had announced in 2019 that reservations on the ship would be available in late 2020, but that didn’t happen for obvious reasons. We still don’t actually have any idea of the itineraries that the ship will be sailing in summer 2022, and reservations are not yet open.

    The theme

Okay, let’s get to the fun stuff. Disney Cruise Line ships are all unique in how they interpret and utilize the brilliant Disney universe of characters, and Disney Wish is no exception. It will feature Rapunzel as its main mascot, but it will also incorporate a variety of other Disney stories in its decoration. Captain Minnie Mouse will make an appearance, and there will be a large statue of Cinderella within the Grand Hall of the ship. The Grand Hall is also set to based on the idea of a fairytale castle, something which is sure to enchant anyone who steps on board. The general theme of the ship was explained by a spokesperson for the company. They said, “For the Disney Wish, we are creating a signature design language that exudes this emotional magic like only Disney can, by infusing every inch of this enchanted ship with more Disney stories and characters than ever before. The Disney Wish will be a place where families really do get to wish upon a star.” Sounds fun to us!

It seems that Disney is taking some steps forward in the rollout for Disney Wish, so expect to hear some more news soon. We’ll keep you updated on when bookings are finally available on this magical ship!

  • The Exciting Future for the Disney Cruise Line

The Exciting Future for the Disney Cruise Line

The Disney Cruise Line has been an excellent, family-friendly option for those wishing to experience a vacation on the high seas since the mid 90s. Since 2012, little has changed for the company’s signature fleet, with the same four ships being the only choice for those who want to wave hello to Mickey Mouse on their way to a themed, extravagant dinner (and, let’s be real, who doesn’t want that?). However, recent news has been flowing over from Disney about some major changes that are planned for their trademark cruise line.

    Disney Wish

While rumors have been circulating for quite some time now about additions to the whimsically-themed fleet, we’re just now starting to get some concrete details about the first newcomer. The ship is going to be called Disney Wish, and it plans to set sail in January 2022. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can start slacking if you’re interested in going: reservations will be ready in late 2020, so start planning next year’s Christmas list soon!

    The Wish’s Mascot is Revealed

One of the most fun parts about a Disney cruise is how each one is themed around a particular fan-favorite character, and Wish is not breaking the trend. The golden-haired Rapunzel will be the heart and soul of the ship, even being painted on the stern. The interior of the ship is planned to carry on with the princess theme, featuring a huge main lobby complete with chandelier and castle-like staircase.

Disney Cruise Line Returns to New Orleans

If the first trip with the Wish seems too far away, you can get in on some Disney action now by booking a cruise on the Wonder, the ship that Disney announced will be returning to New Orleans. There are a variety of trips offered, but all head to the Caribbean and should be loads of fun. Some of the trips include stops in Progreso, Mexico, a spot that’s new to Disney cruises.

If you don’t want to wait for the Wish or don’t want to travel to New Orleans, there are plenty of other Disney cruises you can check out and book right now. The existing ships should be an option on the radar for families or anyone else that knows how to connect with their inner child. And, let’s not forget that there are two more ships planned after the Wish, with one supposedly coming in 2021 and another in 2022. For Disney Cruise Line fans, life is looking good.
