In our eyes, it isn’t about whether or not you should go on a cruise, it’s which cruise you should go on. There’s a dizzying array of options out there. You have to pick a cruise line, an individual ship, an itinerary, which stateroom…. But hey, all the different experiences you can have are part of the fun! We are of the opinion, though, that there’s a whole other side of the cruise world that many travelers never delve into: themed cruises. These trips are totally unique and fun, as well as totally underrated. Here are just some of the reasons why we think you should consider themed cruises when you’re looking for your next vacay!
There’s one for everyone
When we say everyone, we aren’t being hyperbolic. Cruise lines know that everyone has varied interests, and they’re here to capitalize on all the different markets around. Are you into classic, campy 80s rock? Check. A big sci-fi buff, perhaps? Done! Obsessed with Gwyneth Paltrow’s controversial wellness brand, goop? Somehow, yes. No matter what it is you love, there’s probably a themed cruise out there for you. It’s pretty unique to be able to engage in a vacation that feels tailor-made for you, but that’s what you can get with a themed cruise. If you’re going on a vacation anyway, why not sail alongside Darth Vader?
You’re getting more bang for your buck
We all know that cruises are a pretty dang good deal when you get down to it. The activities available on a cruise ship are evidence of this enough. Pools, spas, fitness centers, dining halls and more are all available right at your fingertips. The amount of stuff you can do on a cruise really helps you get your money’s worth. On a themed cruise, though, the activities are cranked up to 11 (especially on the Monsters of Rock cruise, but we digress). You can expect non-stop events and activities that would normally cost a whole lot of money. On music-themed cruises, you’re basically getting a music festival at sea. Choosing a themed cruise just means you’re getting more for your money, and what’s not to love about that?
You can meet people just like you
If you’re into something more on the esoteric side, it can be hard to meet people exactly on the same page. It’s not often that you’ll be walking down the street and bump into someone that’s as excited about steampunk costumes as you are. But on a themed cruise, you’ll be absolutely surrounded by like-minded folk who are just as enthusiastic about the theme as you are. This is an excellent way to meet a new friend that you might have for life. Alternatively, some themed cruises repeat every year, so you might find a new group of besties that you only see on the cruise, which has a certain charm of its own.
There’s nothing wrong with a regular cruise, but why not try out a themed cruise? You’re bound to have the time of your life if you can find the right theme, and odds are you will. Google is your friend. Check out all the different options that cruise lines are offering and book one ASAP!
