Meet Virgin Voyages First Cruise Ship – The Scarlet Lady

The first cruise ship in the Virgin Voyages Line has just been formally introduced to the public as The Scarlet Lady. She was just been placed in the water at the Fincantieri dock in Genoa and is scheduled to be underway in the Caribbean in 2020. This is the first of three cruise ships which are fulfilling a long time dream of the well-known Sir Richard Branson.

The Scarlet Lady’s Pedigree

This ultra-modern and luxurious cruise ship will be capable of welcoming 2700 sailors, which is the term Virgin Voyages reserves for its passengers. These sailors will be pampered by a full staff of 1,150 crew members who are there to meet and exceed every guest’s expectation. The features of the Scarlet Lady include a state of the art nightclub with live DJs, a boxing ring and an oversized gaming area with pool tables, giant Jenga and a wide array of other games and activities.

Health and well-being are a common theme aboard the Red Lady as she offers a large gym complete with a Tonic Bar which will offer cold-pressed juices. An area designated as the B-Complex will offer exercise equipment, bikes, and a balance room as well as free exercise classes for all passengers. Sunrise and sunset yoga classes are also expected to be very popular with the 30ish crowd that this ship is targeting. And after a workout, guests can retire to the Redemption Spa which is modeled after an underwater cave and offers massages, mud baths, and a salt room.

A Few New Twists

One important note about the Red Lady is that the ship is going to start life as an adult-only vessel. Passengers will need to be over 18 to book for the maiden voyages which will depart from the Port of Miami and sail the Caribbean. As the next two ships come into service in 2021 and 2022, it is possible that their destinations could include the Mediterranean or the Balkans but no firm itineraries are available at this time.

The other feature of the Virgin Line is its focus on the environment. One-time use plastic products such as straws, stirrers, coffee cups, food packaging and beverage bottles have been replaced with more green alternatives. Banning the use of these single-use products could be seen as a major inconvenience in some circles, but the staff of the Virgin Voyages is determined to show passengers and the world that environmentally friendly choices can be easily accomplished with the right mindset.
