The Port City of San Francisco: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise
San Francisco is one of America’s iconic cities, and should you find yourself in town before leaving on a cruise, there will be no shortage of things to see and do. However, vacationers setting off on a cruise often don’t have much time in the city of their departure, and their transportation options may be limited as well. In light of this, we have designed a guide of things to see and do in San Francisco strictly with cruise vacationers in mind. If you have some time before leaving on (or after returning from) your cruise, follow our lead to make the best of your time in the city. Read more […] -
The Port City of San Diego: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise
San Diego is a nice place to find yourself if you have some spare time – like before leaving on a cruise, for instance. As is the case with most large American cities, there are plenty of things to see and do in San Diego, and we have highlighted a few sights and activities in particular that could be experienced before or after a cruise. If you have multiple days in San Diego, you can essentially do whatever you want, and this obviously includes what we list below; however, we have made recommendations with cruise vacationers in mind who may only have a few hours to spare. So, what we write shouldn’t be taken as an exhaustive list of all that San Diego has to offer. We are only writing, as the title implies, a list of the things to see and do before leaving on a cruise (or after you return). Read more […] -
The Port City of New York: Things to Do and See Before Leaving on a Cruise
It is in many ways absurd to write about what you can see and do in New York before leaving on a cruise. One of the most famous cities in the world, bursting with culture and global significance, there is almost nothing you can’t do in New York City. For this reason, it is also somewhat questionable to refer to New York as a “port city,” as if the port is the reason New York is notable. (Then again, it is in fact a port city, and we’ve called other major cities “port cities,” so we’re comfortable Read more […] -
The Port City of Norfolk, Virginia: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise
The Port of Norfolk, Virginia is not known for its heavy cruise traffic. In recent years, only Carnival has operated out of the port, and in 2014, even Carnival stopped offering cruises out of Norfolk, Virginia. However, Carnival is returning the Virginia port to offer seasonal cruises in 2015 on the Carnival Splendor, which will sail to the Bahamas and Bermuda. Norfolk is by no means a major cruise port, but tens of thousands of people will soon be cruising from the port each year, and if you are one of these people, here are some things to see and do before leaving on a cruise from Norfolk, Virginia. The Port of New Orleans (Port Nola or PortNO): Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise
In a recent article about what to see and do in Mobile, Alabama, we noted the similarities between Mobile and New Orleans, where Port Nolo (or PortNO) is located, and said that a trip to the former can be a lot like a trip to the latter. But you know what is even more like New Orleans? New Orleans itself, and there is no replacing a visit to the Crescent City, home of the New Orleans Saints, setting of The Confederacy of Dunces, and all around cool city. It is therefore an ideal place to spend some time before leaving on a cruise from the city (most likely to the Caribbean for obvious geographical reasons). If you build an extra day or two into your trip, here are some things to see and do in New Orleans before you set sail. Read more […] -
The Port City of Miami: Things to See and Do Before Leaving on a Cruise
Like every other port city in Florida, the state at the center of the cruise industry universe, Miami is flooded with cruise vacationers every year. Indeed, the port of Miami – simply called “Port Miami” (or as one word, “PortMiami”) – bills itself as the “Cruise Capital of the World.” Although not the busiest port in the United States, a title that belongs to Los Angeles, Miami is the busiest cruise port in the United States and indeed the entire world. Tens of thousands of passengers per day and millions of passengers per year pass through Port Miami, and as they wait for their cruise to depart, they’ll probably want to see and do a few things around Miami. It is with these people in mind that we write this article. What can you see and do before leaving on your cruise from Miami? Read more […]
